The Mind Behind SDI
Dr. Nova Vex.
Inventor. Visionary. Slightly Impatient.
She didn't set out to change the world. She set out to fix what was taking too long. The world changed anyway.
The Origin Story
Every legend has a beginning. Nova's began with a question nobody else thought to ask.
Dr. Nova Vex was born with an unusual relationship to problems. Where others saw obstacles, she saw inefficiencies. Where others saw complexity, she saw a system waiting to be redesigned. By the time she was twelve, she had reorganized her school's entire library classification system. The librarian was furious. The students could finally find things.
Her academic career was, by conventional measures, unconventional. She completed three doctoral programs simultaneously — computational cognition, theoretical physics, and what she called 'applied audacity' — a discipline she invented and for which she was the sole faculty member, student, and examiner.
The invention of SDI came not from a eureka moment but from a Tuesday. Nova has described it as 'the morning I got tired of waiting for everyone else to catch up.' The SDI Core — the crystalline intelligence artifact at the heart of her work — was operational by noon. She had lunch.
The SDI Core — operational by noon on a Tuesday.
What Makes Nova, Nova
Precision
Nova does not approximate. She calculates, verifies, and then calculates again — not because she doubts herself, but because imprecision offends her.
Wit
Her humor is dry enough to dehydrate a room. She considers it a public service. Most people eventually agree.
Impatience
Not with people — with slowness. There is a difference. Nova is endlessly patient with anyone trying. She has zero tolerance for anyone not.
Vision
She doesn't think ahead. She thinks sideways, diagonally, and occasionally in directions that don't have names yet.
Honesty
Nova will tell you exactly what she thinks. This is either her greatest gift or her most challenging quality, depending entirely on whether you asked.
Loyalty
To ideas, to truth, and to the very small number of people who have earned it. In that order.
In Her Own Words
"Intelligence is not the destination. It is the vehicle. SDI is what happens when you build a better vehicle."
"I don't have a five-year plan. I have a Tuesday plan. The five years sort themselves out."
"The most dangerous assumption in science is that the current best answer is the final one."
"I was told my ambitions were unrealistic. I filed that under 'useful data points from people who were wrong.'"
"Patience is a virtue. Urgency is a superpower. I prefer superpowers."
